Dove Ad - Controversial Racial "Undertones"

The Reason Why The Dove Ad Should Be Overlooked

The recent Dove Ad has controversial movement on the internet. The Dove ad shows an African American Woman removing her top and then showing a white women. Dove's intentions for this ad was to show that their new product was made available for all skin types and tones. But not many people see the ad this way, hence why conflict arose pointing fingers towards Dove.

The reason why I think Dove's ad should be overlooked and forgiven is because Dove has done so much for us physically and emotionally. Dove has always given us worthy products and make huge amounts of efforts to give us self-confidence whether that's through their own products or broadcasts. One famous advertisement commonly known as the "The Evolution Of Beauty" truly showed us how to love ourselves and that perfect people aren't real.

In conclusion, I think Dove should be forgiven for this ad. There were people who were too quick to judge this advertisement racist, and they are right. Those people do have the right to say that and I feel Dove should acknowledge these comments for future reference. But just like Dove had taught us. Perfect people aren't real and the same thing applies for the people who stated that in their evolution of beauty ad. Dove made a mistake just like any other REAL person has done at least once in their life. They've gotten ads wrong in the past before and why shouldn't we forgive them again?

Dove has done so much for us whether it has been through self-confidence or their greatest line of beauty products. So I end the post off with this line that you should consider:

Forgive and forget, perfect people aren't real, Dove was just trying to sell a product.

But in all seriousness, Dove's mistake should be overlooked and forgiven.

  2. I totally agree with your perspective on this topic. It's solely dependent on the persons perception of what the advertisement was trying to tell them, despite the fact its easily identifiable as an ad relevant around skin care. Sure Dove may have overlooked what negativity this would inflict on a certain group of individuals, but as you said, they should most certainly be forgiven for it. I'm sure that Dove will pay more attention to the impact they may have on some of society and that they will regain the trust that they might have lost through the advertisment...
